A new team, new bike and new co-sponsor mean the 2024 season is set to be an exciting one for Sam Culverwell.
On his recent trip back home where he was one of the guest speakers at the Guernsey Sports Commission Sporting Awards and a finalist in the Outstanding Performer of the Year category, Culverwell picked up a new Specialised road bike, which has been part-funded by his existing sponsor Ravenscroft.
The investment services company has been joined by Ravenscroft Construction in sponsoring Culverwell for 2024 which will be his first season with Saint Piran Pro Cycling.
‘I’m excited for 2024 as it feels like everything has come together. Saint Piran has built an incredibly strong team, winter training is going well, the new bike is better than I could have imagined and to have the support of Ravenscroft and Ravenscroft Construction is just amazing,’ said Culverwell, who has also been shortlisted for Sports Personality of the Year at next month’s Channel Islands Sports Awards.
‘Wherever I am racing, I always do what I can to raise the profile of Guernsey and it makes an enormous difference knowing that I have home support. Jon and Nick Ravenscroft have shown a huge amount of confidence in me with their sponsorship so I am determined to make this season the best yet.’
Culverwell’s first race of 2024 is on 11th February and he has a full schedule of one day road races in France, Belgium and the Netherlands and is looking at a stage race in the US and a one day race in Norway. The Tour of Britain in September and the Gravel World Championship is also planned.
‘It’s going to be a long season but by committing to multiple disciplines, I can make the most of all the opportunities. Some of the races are completely new but they suit me really well and that’s exciting.’
