Future Stars shine again this summer
After the launch of Future Stars in 2018, when over 90 five to eight year old children took part in the eight week programme introducing the skills of cricket through various fun based drills, it is all go again this summer.
Once again, the sessions run on a Tuesday and Saturday for eight weeks and all those taking part have received a Ravenscroft Future Stars bag, bat, ball, cap, water bottle and beach stumps set, which has been specially designed by Newbery Cricket.
‘This year we want to get over 150 boys and girls involved in Ravenscroft Future Stars and we are well over halfway to that target already. Seeing all the kids in their new Newbery kit this year is a great sight and bodes well for the future participation numbers in local cricket. We are very grateful to Ravenscroft for their continuing support,’ said Ben Ferbrache, Guernsey Cricket Development Manager.
Guernsey Cricket plans for more Ravenscroft Future Stars events during the summer holidays, a Beach Cricket extravaganza in September, which will launch soon, and a Christmas-themed Future Stars to round the year off.
‘The first year of Ravenscroft Future Stars was a great success and it was fantastic to see girls and boys enjoying being outside and learning cricketing skills. As a company, we are committed to supporting initiatives which not only encourage youngsters to be active and healthy but also help develop sporting stars of the futures and so we didn’t hesitate to extend our support of this junior cricketing programme – we hope it won’t be too long before we see Ravenscroft Future Stars playing for Guernsey,’ said Robin Newbould, director of Ravenscroft.
