Stroke survivors to take on charity challenge

Stroke survivors and their families and friends will take part in a fundraising challenge this weekend and it is hoped more islanders will join in or come along to cheer them on.

The Step Out for Stroke survivors’ walk is a nation wide event and on Sunday, dozens of islanders whose lives have been affected by a stroke or brain injury will complete the mile long walk along the Esplanade with all the money raised locally staying in the island. It’s the Stroke Association’s second fundraising event in Jersey this year following the Resolution Run in April with both being sponsored by Ravenscroft.

‘Step Out for Stroke is the perfect opportunity for stroke survivors, friends and families to take part in a walk together. A mile long walk is a considerable challenge for someone who has had stroke but hopefully the fact that with every step they take, they help raise awareness of a stroke and vital funds for our work in supporting those affected by stroke will be a huge incentive,’ said Tracy O’Regan, Stroke Association fundraising and operations manager – Jersey.

‘The great thing about Step Out for Stroke is that people can walk at their own pace and in their own time. We are thrilled that so many people have already registered and hope more will join us on the day. Thanks to sponsorship from Ravenscroft, all of the money raised will go towards helping stroke survivors in Jersey.’

Haydn Taylor, managing director of Ravenscroft in Jersey, said the investment services group was delighted to be supporting the Stroke Association for its second event of the year.

‘The work which the Stroke Association is doing in Jersey to both prevent strokes and help survivors and their families is life changing and Ravenscroft is proud that it can support them in their efforts. Strokes can affect anyone of any age and is the fourth biggest killer in the UK and the leading cause of adult disability – that’s a shocking statistic but hopefully the money and awareness raised this weekend will help reduce those numbers. We wish everyone taking part the very best of luck.’

Registration, which is on the seafront opposite Grand Jersey, is from 10am and the walk starts at 11am.
